When starting vegetable seeds inside, do I need to use a special soil, or will regular potting soil work? |
It's usually recommended that seeds be started in special seed starting mix. It has a finer texture than regular potting soil so it's makes good contact with the seeds, and is easier for new little roots to penetrate. It also holds just the right amount of moisture for new seedlings. You can use regular potting soil if you have no access to seed starting mix; just be careful to plant at the right depth and to keep the growing medium moist but not so moist that it glistens on the surface. Good luck with your new veggie garden! |
