| One half of my yard is shaded by a large magnolia tree in a neighboring yard. I would like to plant a perennial vine (not ivy) underneath the tree, preferably a fragrant flowering vine. This area gets little sun, the soil is a heavy clay. The prior owners had an old rhododenron that did not seem to do very well. Any suggestions about what would work here? |
| Some evergreen vines with fragrant flowers include Distictis (Trumpet Vine), Clematis armandii, Jasmine, Lonicera (Honeysuckle) and Stephanotis floribunda. Bougainvillea would work, too, but doesn't have fragrance. Be sure to amend the soil with organic matter prior to planting, to help the soil retain moisture. |
