Answer: I am a little bit confused by your question. Hollyhocks grow from a crown rather than from a bulb, so I am not sure which plant you really have. Bulbs are always planted "pointy end up" so that the roots grow downward; crowns would be planted with any growth tips or shoots facing up and any roots facing down.
