Answer: That depends on the species of fruit. The following list should give you the basic pollination needs of most common types of fruit:

Require Cross-Pollination:
Pears (exceptions: Kieffer, Duchess)
Asian Pears (some exceptions)
Japanese Plums
European Plums
Sweet Cherries (exceptions: Stella, Lapins, & Starkrimson)

Peaches (exceptions: J.H. Hale)
Nectarines (mostly)
Sour Cherries
