If you have a bare root fern, plant it right away so it can come out of dormancy naturally with the season. If you have one in a container that is already in active growth, plant it now if you can protect it on freezing nights (an overturned bucket or carboard box would do). If not, set it outdoors in a shaded sheltered location every day and then bring it into a protected (cool but above freezing) spot at night.
