There are many plants that do well in flower or window boxes! The answer to your question depends on where the box is located (morning sun, afternoon sun, all day sun, partial shade, etc.), how large it is, and what your personal taste or preference is. A good bet for a shady location is impatiens, for partial shade try fibrous rooted bedding begonias, and for full sun try dusty miller and flowering vinca.
