Must I pick fruit from my Valencia Orange tree, not yet fully ripe, now that new blossoms are setting for the next years crop? If I allow the current crop to ripen on the tree, will it affect the new fruit development? What is the best way to determine if citrus fruit is fully ripe on the tree?

You need not pick the new fruit if it is not fully ripe. The best way to tell if citrus is ripe is to taste some. It is difficult to tell by look, smell or feel. When you think it should be ready, try one that looks ripe and that is your benchmark for future years.
