Does the Crimson Maple have very deep burgandy leaves, basically year round, and is it messy, ie. does it drop seed pods? Is Crimson Maple the name I use to order the tree? Is it OK to plant on the South side of the house, as on a parkway near the street?

Acer palmatum 'Crimson Queen' is a Japanese maple with bright crimson-red new leaves. The leaf color persists throughout the summer, changing to scarlet in the fall months. The tree isn't messy, but does drop leaves in the late fall months. You can expect a mature height of 10' and a canopy spread of about 12'. Plant in full sunshine, in average garden soil. This tree is often used as a sidewalk tree in cities and residential neighborhoods so it should fit in quite well near the street in your landscape.
