The Q&A Archives: Heather Planting

Question: I would like to grow heather in my yard in south coastal Massachusetts. Is this a cultivated plant that I can find to plant in my yard?

Answer: There are two types of plants we commonly call heather. One is Calluna and the other is Erica. Both grow best in fast-draining soils in full sunshine, and both are hardy to USDA zone 4. You're in zone 5, so heather will grow in your garden without problem.
