| We bought a house a year ago and are unhappy with the existing flower beds. They are made up of a variety of flowers of which have bloomed since we have moved in. Some are daffodils and lilies and a lot of unknowns. We would like to start over with low maintenance foliage. What can we do to kill everything in the beds and not hurt the things we would like to replant? We are very ignorant on the subject. |
| There are several approaches to consider. One would be to consult with an experienced gardener on site as to what the plants are and which might be worth keeping. Most perennials are easily dug and removed, so you might find someone who would like to have them in exchange for removing them. You could also use an herbicide containing glyphosate, although this is nonselective and will damage any plant it contacts. If you use this, be careful to follow the label instructions exactly and shield any plants you wish to keep. |
