I`m trying to find information on nightblooming flowers.I would like to add them to my garden because, I spend most of my time in garden in the evening after work |
Some fragrant evening bloomers include: Moonflower vine, Night blooming jasmine, dianthus, acidantera, evening stock, evening primrose, Nicotiana, fragrant oriental lilies, night phlox, and the "Daddy" series of petunias. Shepherd's Garden Seed Co. has an "Evening Blooming Collection" that offers many of these. You can reach them at phone (860) 482-3638. You might also find many of the herbs rewarding as they are fragrant when touched. Some to consider would be pineapple sage, scented geraniums, assorted thymes and mints, sage, oregano, curry plant, lemon grass and lemon verbena. You might also include white flowers because they will show up at night. Some perennial choices include: Phlox paniculata 'David' or Mt. Fuji', Echinacea purpurea 'White Lustre' or 'White Swan', delphinium 'Galahad', tulips, daffodils, hyacinth, iris, liatris, Achillea 'Snowsport', Candytuft "Snowflake', lilium 'Snow Trumpet', Monarda Didyma 'Snow White', Queen Anne's Lace, Astilbe, Shasta daisy, white Thalictrum (meadow rue), and Veronica speedwell 'Alba'. Some rugosa roses have white flowers, as do the hybrid rugosas 'Blanc Double de Courbet' and 'Henry Hudson'. Some annuals include: Moonshadow sunflower, white impatiens, French Vanilla Marigold, sweet alyssum, White Sonata cosmos, Misty White Nigella, Pearly Gates morning glory, German statice, helichrysum, and white geranium. Many, many of the above are available from Burpee at 1-800-888-1447. |
