| This can be very difficult out in the garden! Sometimes it helps to plant a few seeds in a pot separately just so you can see what they look like when they emerge. Sometimes the packet will have a drawing of the seedlings so you can get an idea of the size and shape. As best as I can describe a Sweet William seedling, it is bright green and has longish, narrow, somewhat arching foliage and grows from a central clump. Another approach would be to look at the mature weeds in your area to see if you can identify their seedlings, and pull the ones you know for sure are weeds, then carefully observe the remaining plants over time until you see a pattern from the seeds you planted.
