I use a lot of onion sets each year, but I always buy the sets. I would like to know how to grow them. Also is it possible to grow some to use in the spring and then grow a batch to use in the fall to avoid storing them. |
You can certainly grow your own onions from seed, but to do so you need to start them very early -- January for the spring planting. Plant them as you would any other seed and treat the seedlings as you would any others, but trim the leaves back once or twice to keep them short and stocky while they are under lights or in the greenhouse. |
