Is hydrangea microphylla hardy for growth in the garden for zone 5?

Do you mean Hydrangea macrophylla? I've never heard of microphylla. If you are referring to the former, it is hardy in USDA zones 6-10. Hydrangea paniculum 'Grandiflorum' or PeeGee Hydrangea would be hardy in your zone though.
