For the last couple of years, our 20-year-old rhododendrons have developed wilting leaves and the smaller branches seem to be dying. I've tried pruning them back, mulching heavily in the fall, and feeding them with food for azaleas and rhodies. That didn't seem to help. Someone suggested that I might have some kind of borer. Any ideas? |
It is possible that weevils or borers have infested your tree, however it is impossible to make a diagnosis long distance -- for example, there could be a fungal infection or the recent dry years may be taking their toll, or it may be a combination of factors. You might wish to consult with your county extension (745-3445) for an identicifation of the problem and suggested remedies. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful. |
