My tulips have started to bloom and it has suddenly gotten cold again, its snowing. How can I protect my tulips from the cold and snow? |
The snow may be beneficial because it acts as an insulator, so in a way it is a good thing that there is snow in addition to the cold. The buds and blooms are surprisingly cold hardy, too. If you want to try to cover them, you might use upturned cardboard boxes, laundry baskets, trash cans and the like. Take them off or prop them open as soon as there is sunshine to avoid heat build up inside. You can also try covering them with a garden blanket or rowcover fabric. |
