The Q&A Archives: Herbs For Strawberry Jar

Question: I have two strawberry jars and would love to start a container herb garden. Could you suggest fragrant herbs and some for tea appropriate for zone 6?

Answer: Unglazed terracotta strawberry jars are usually difficult to keep well watered, so the best selections would be among the herbs that tolerate a drier, well drained soil. For fragrance and teas, try any of the thymes as well as lemon verbena, chamomile, and scented geraniums. If you add a water holding polymer to the soil, you should be able to grow mints and basil in your jars as well.
