I would like to plant several types of bulbs but I'm not sure which, if any, can be left out for the winter in my zone (I'm on the border of zones 5 & 6). I'd like to plant Sparaxis, Freesia, and Ixia.

There's no doubt about it, the bulbs you list are irresistable...but the Ixia and Sparaxis should be lifted and stored indoors in fall like gladiolus. Freesia doesn't grow reliably outside north of zone 9 because they need a frost-free environment, but also need fairly cool temperatures (50-70F) to grow well and bloom. Many gardeners grow them in bright, cool rooms.
