A selection of sun and heat loving annuals for such a location might include tropical plants such as mandevilla and angel's trumpet, annuals such as cosmos, zinnia, verbena, flowering vinca rosea, red or blue salvia, and the ornamental sweet potatoes. They will do better in larger containers where the soil stays a bit cooler and dries out more slowly. You might also use the water holding polymers in the potting soil to help keep the soil more evenly moist.
