The Q&A Archives: Bloom Length of Pink Rain Lily

Question: How long will pink rain lilies bloom and during what month(s)? Also are fuchsias perennials? Carol Harman Arlington, TX

Answer: The pink rain lily (Zephyranthes grandiflora; pg 120 of the Burpee Spring catalog) should bloom from April throughout the summer. If your soil is well-drained (sandy), plant them about 4" deep; the soil holds moisture well, plant about 2" deep. Fuchsias are perennial, and some species are adapted to outdoor culture, especially the hardy Fuchsia magellanica and F. exoniensis, both offered by Carroll Gardens (444 East Main St., Westminster, MD 21157; ph# 800-638-63340)
