How close together can I plant 2 new lilac shrubs?

The answer to your question depends on what type they are, but the rule of thumb is to plant them at least as far apart as they will grow wide at maturity. This will provide them with plenty of room to grow and thrive and allow for good air circulation which is important since lilacs tend to suffer from mildew and air circulation helps reduce that. For typical llacs I would suggest about eight feet.
