The Q&A Archives: Vines For South-facing Wall

Question: What type of vines would grow on a south facing concrete block wall. The lawn grows right up to the concrete wall. My preference is a vine that would not damage the concrete wall.

Answer: Evergreen vines that like a southern exposure include Clematis armandii, Clytostoma callistegioides (Violet Trumpet Vine), Gelsemium sempervirens (Carolina Jessamine), Lonicera (Honeysuckle), Muehlenbeckia complexa (Mattress Vine) and Solanum jasminoides (Potato Vine). Deciduous vine choices include Akebia, Campsis (Trumpet Vine), Hydrangea anomala (Climbing Hydrangea), and Wisteria. Hope one of the above suggestions appeals to you!
