How can I best preserve lillies of the valley once cut? I am hoping to take them for decorating to my son's wedding on 4/29/00.

Lily-of-the-valley flowers aren't especially noted for making good cut flowers, but you can try cutting them in the early morning and immediately placing them in a container of fresh water, then keeping them as cool as possible. I use one teaspoon household bleach and one tablespoon sugar mixed into one gallon of water to help my cut flowers look fresher longer. The bleach slows bacterial growth and the sugar provides nutrients to the flower, stem and foliage.

Hope the flowers look terrific for the wedding!
