Sandcherry or Purpleleaf Sand Cherry (Prunus cistena) is a very hardy and adaptable (Zones 2 to 8) purple-leafed shrub. It grows to about eight feet tall and wide and produces small " washed-out" pink blossoms in the spring. Later, it produces tiny black fruits. It grows well in a sunny location and is tolerant of most soil types except one that is wet. You may find named selections with more intense purple foliage or a slightly larger mature size.
