The Q&A Archives: Black-Eyed Susans -- Annual or Perennial

Question: I've read that Black Eyed Susans are annuals, then I read in a gardening magazine, today that if divided, they will grow for years, making them perennials. What are they exactly? I bought a gorgeous Black Eyed Susan hanging basket and would love toknow how I should care for it. Thank you. Johanna Brinkman Overland Park, KS

Answer: Black Eyed Susans (Rudbeckia sps.) are pernnials in most parts of the U.S. including Kansas. They should come back every year and flower for you as long as they are happy getting full sun and well drained soil.
