The Q&A Archives: Protecting Strawberry Blossoms from Cold

Question: My strawberry plants are blooming and the weather forecast is calling for frost the next two nights. Do I need to cover the plants to protect the blooms from the frost? Tom Bollinger Mt. Sterling, OH

Answer: I hope I've responded in time, or that you erred on the side of caution if I haven't! Yes, I do recommend covering your blooming strawberries when frost is forecast. Although the plants themselves are about as hardy as they come, the blossoms are quite tender.
