Is there a difference in "Hardy" Gladiolas or do the ones called so still have to be dug in fall in NY. So are there Glads I do not have to dig?

There are some hardy glads, but they are small and bloom in the spring unlike the tall showy glads we enjoy during the summer months and in florists' bouquets. Unfortunately, we still need to dig the normal glads in colder climates.
