I pruned back my butterfly bushes in February, and one bush has so much new growth coming out of the ground a few inches away from the main trunk, it is almost like a new bush. Is it possible to divide this bush and start a new one? I'd love to give it to a friend.

If you can divide the root system so that each division has both roots and stems attached, you can give some to a friend. Soak the soil well the day before the planned dig, then dig and divide, replanting a quickly as possible so the roots do not have a chance to dry out. Pot up one division and replant the other. Keep both well watered and they should survive without a problem.
