I recent purchased mountain laurel plants, K. latifolia 'minuet' and I am curious as to how to space the plants. I believe this plant is a drawf variety of the common latifolia but was unsucessful in finding this specific species in my Taylor encyclopedia. I am wondering how high and wide this species will grow. I plan to group three plants together and do not want to have to move them again in five or so years. Can you help? |
According to Michael Dirr's respected "Manual of Woody Landscape Plants", this is a miniature form similar to "Elf" and "Elf" he describes as dwarf and compact and growing to approximately one third to one half the normal size. "Normal" size would be, according to Dirr, from 7 to 15 feet high and wide with a potential of growing to 30 to 36 feet. Elsewhere, "Elf" is described as growing to three feet and "Minuet" as growing to four feet. I hope this helps. |
