| Venus is an early, large, seedless blue grape but I would not describe it as a Concord type. It is not as hardy as Concord, either. Catawba is a relatively hardy grape, more so than Venus, and extremely vigorous. You might want to check with your county extension as to which varieties are suggested for your local area. In terms of planting, grapes need full sun and well drained soil (meaning not soggy) of at least average fertility. You might want to run some basic soil tests and your extension should be able to help you with the tests and interpreting the results as well. |
