Hollies do best in a location with an acid soil that is humusy and evenly moist yet well drained, meaning not soggy. They are somewhat adaptable in terms of light, but full sun is best. One of the most important considerations is wind, especially during the winter, because this can dry them out. Ideally, they would be located in a spot that is very sheltered from the wind, especially the winter wind. They would also be located far enough from pavement and buildings to avoid reflected heat, both summer and winter. |
