My mom has a Sweet Shrub. It is many, many years old and has done quite well until the past couple of years it just seems to be producing less and less sweet smelling flowers ( I guess that is what they are called) We have tried feeding it last year but this year it looks bad. What can I do for it? I would really hate to see it die. Can you help? |
Calycanthus floridus is commonly known as Carolina Allspice, or Sweet Shrub. I'd suggest pruning your shrub back to encourage new flowering stems. Cut back about one-third of the growth now and new shoots should develop this season, bearing lots of sweet-smelling blooms. |
