I HAVE A YOUNG LILAC BUSH (APPROX. 2 YRS. OLD) THAT I DON'T WANT TO GET REAL BIG. WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO PRUNE THE BUSH?

The best time to prune lilacs is immediately after they bloom in the spring. Pruning any later will remove next year's blooms because lilac blooms on "old" wood. It may be difficult to keep the lilac small, they are normally rather large shrubs.
