My valencia oranges are all cracking on the bottom. They are very big but are not ripe -- they won't be ready until the end of June. (I live in southern CA.) Is it not enough water or too much? Any help would be apprecaited. |
Citrus fruit cracking is a problem that occurs prior to and during harvest season, usually just prior to the fruit reaching maturity. It is a physiological disorder, the exact cause of which is unknown. However, the problem is often worst when a dry spell is followed by a heavy rain. To minimize problems, take care to supply adequate water and nutrients.
