Valencia Oranges Cracking - Knowledgebase Question

My valencia oranges are all cracking on the bottom. They are very big but are not ripe -- they won't be ready until the end of June. (I live in southern CA.) Is it not enough water or too much? Any help would be apprecaited.

Citrus fruit cracking is a problem that occurs prior to and during harvest season, usually just prior to the fruit reaching maturity. It is a physiological disorder, the exact cause of which is unknown. However, the problem is often worst when a dry spell is followed by a heavy rain. To minimize problems, take care to supply adequate water and nutrients. Following is the address for the Home Citrus Handbook from the University of Florida Extension:
