THE PREVIOUS OWNS OF OUR HOME HAVE DAFFODILS PLANTED AND AFTER THEY BLOOM - HOSTA START TO COME UP IN THE SAME SPOT - DAFFODIL STEMS ARE STILL THERE, AND THE HOSTA COME UP AROUND THE STEMS - VERY STRAGGLEY ! DO YOU RECOMMEND I TAKE THE HOSTA OUT AND REPLANT AT ANOTHER LOCATION. WILL IT HURT MY DAFFODIL BULBS ? CAN I DO THIS NOW ? THANK YOU ! DEB |
You could move the hosta now, but it sounds like the previous owner had worked out a way to a) cover the daffodil stems and foliage while they mature and then ripen and look very ugly and b)have something growing in that spot all summer without needing to dig there and possible damage the bulbs. Daffodils and hosta are a classic combination and solve the problem at least as well as anything. You will need to leave the daffodil foliage to grow and then ripen and turn brown and takes a long period of time; the bulbs need to do this to replenish themselves so they can bloom next year. |
