Last week I planted basil, parsley & mint in pots on my porch and cucumber plants, tomatoes, strawberries, garlic & peppers in my garden in the yard. Something's been eating both the basil & the cucumber plants, as well as nibbling on the pepper plants. What is doing this and how do I control it in an organic fashion? |
Without know who has been nibbling the leaves of your plants it's difficult to recommend a control. Perhaps the nibbler is gone now and all that's left is the damage. Visit your plants several times during the day and once after dark to see if you can find the insect responsible for the damage. Once you've found and identified it, we can help with control strategies. Most healthy plants can put up with minor insect damage so other than looking less than perfect, your plants probably aren't in any real danger from the elusive snackers. The first defense in controlling destructive insects is handpicking or hosing them off with water. After that it's pretty insect-specific, so we'll need to positively identify the trouble maker before making any other recommendations. Hope your plants thrive this season! |
