When is the best time to cut back Hisbiscus plants that have gotten too tall and leggy? I have a pot with three in it that is 4 years old and I bring it in every winter. It needs pruning badly; should I do it now? |
Tropical hibiscus naturally grows big and gangly, so you need to prune to keep them in shape. Some gardeners will selectively prune individual branches throughout the year. This will allow the plant to bloom year round (provided there is sufficient light in the winter). Another method is to trim the plant back hard in late winter or early spring. This method delays blooming until the plant recovers and regrows, but results in a heavy flush of blooms. The method you use is up to personal preference. |
