Privet does fine in a wide range of soils, so although Holly Tone is intended for acid loving plants, one application at the label rate probably would not harm the privets. In future, unless your soil is for some unlikely reason extremely alkaline, you would not need or want to use a fertilizer that acidifies the soil.
