The Q&A Archives: Harvesting Rhubarb

Question: After harvesting my pink rhubarb for the first
time this season (soon),how long will it take
before the second crop is ready to harvest?

Answer: Your next harvest would most likely be next year. A young plant should not be harvested over a long period as it is still becoming established. The first year it should not be cut at all, the second year cut only about a fifth of the leaves, after that you may take up to half of the leaves. Once the plant flowers for the year, the stalks become less tasty, so harvest early as soon as the leaves reach full size.
