| I was cleaning my flower beds when I discovered black spots all over my one dianthus plant. What is that and how do I get rid of it? Secondly, I put stone three layers high around my flag pole, three feet wide. I love the looks of lantanas and am wondering if I could plant them in there and how they would do in my area (Iowa). Or do you have any other ideas. |
| Dianthus is occasionally subject to a fungal infection. Remove any badly infested parts and make sure the plant is open to the sun, is not croded and has good air circulation. Also take care to avoid wetting the foliage, especially at night, and that mulch is not pushed up against it. Lantana does best in full sun and a warm location so the heat reflecting off the rocks should be good for it. Some other annual plants to consider would be the flowering periwinkle (Vinca rosea), the salvias, dusty miller, celosia, pentas, and sweet potato vine. |
