The Q&A Archives: Needle & Thread

Question: A friend gave me seeds for "needle and thread". Can you given me any information on this plant.

Answer: The perennial Yucca filamentosa is occasionally called Adam's Needle, and there are "threads" along the edges of the leaves that can actually in some cases be pulled, so perhaps that is what you have seeds from. They should germinate in a week or two in a fairly warm soil, about 70 to 75 degrees, so you could either plant them outdoors in mid summer or use gentle bottom heat when starting them indoors.
