Family member is allergic to lawn grass. What good alternative can you suggest instead of a lawn? Yard faces south-west.

There are a number of lawn substitutes that will grow well in your garden. If you're looking for something that will take foot traffic, try mat-forming Hippocrepis comosa, Laurentia (Blue Star Creeper), or Sagina (Irish moss or Scotch moss). Otherwise, Vinca minor, Pink Panda (ornamental Fragaria chiloensis), Thymus praecox (creeping Thyme), or Phlox subulata. Hope one of the above is just what you're looking for!
