The Q&A Archives: Sources for Curly Red Kale

Question: I have been looking for plants or seeds for curly red kale. I found plants at a nursery last year but this year, no one seems to have them. Do you? Or do you know if starters or seeds are anywhere in this area? This is a great service. Thanks verymuch! Sen Talley Lakewood (just west of Denver), CO

Answer: Johnny's Seeds carries a variety called "Red Russian", but, although the stems are red, the leaves are quite green and it's not very curly. I wonder if you are looking for an ornamental kale--the kind often used as a garnish. Johnny's carries onecalled "Nagoya garnish red" that fits your description perfectly. The number for Johnny's is 207/437-4395.
