Mandevilla Vines - Knowledgebase Question

I AM INTERESTED IN PLANTING A MANDEVILLA VINE AT THE BASE OF A TELEPHONE POLE. DO I NEED TO PROVIDE SOME TYPE OF SUPPORT OR WILL IT CLING TO THE POLE ITSELF IN ORDER TO CLIMB?

It will try to climb the pole but won't likely be able to wrap around the pole and climb it very well. Some nails in the pole every foot or so should help. Or you could provide some other type of support for the twining vine such as a loose wrap of some type of fence wire.
