Answer: About the only requirement impatiens have is moist soil, so if you let the soil dry out between waterings, that may be part of the problem. Here's how I start my impatiens seeds: Lightly sprinkle the seed in the surface of moistened, soilless potting soil in plastic flats. Tap the seeds lightly with your finger and cover the whole flat with black plastic. They will germinate in 2-3 weeks. Once growing, place them under grow lights, keeping the lights only a few inches away from the tops of the plants. Transplant them intoindividual 2 inch pots when they have four true leaves and keep them moist, but not overwatered. Fertilize lightly once a week and keep the room cool (60F) if they seem to be growing too fast.
