The Q&A Archives: Aphid Control on Houseplants

Question: For the second year in a row, we tried to start seeds in B.H. G. seed starter/greenhouse trays. Nothing ever grows? We set the trays out where they would get the most sun and used Supersoil. Also, I have a string-of-pearls plant in the house. It is covered with tiny aphids. What is the best way to get rid of them.

Answer: #1 There are basically two ways and places to start seeds: 1) Indoors in trays filled with seedling starting mix (not Supersoil) and controlled soil temperatures, and 2) outdoors directly to the ground. I think your in-between attempt is not a satisfactory way to start seeds. #2 Use Insecticidal Soap on your house plants for critters such as aphids.
