Mesclun can be grown indoors under lights. Ordinary shop lights using one cool and one warm bulb would do. Plant the seeds sparingly in a shallow pan of dampened soilless mix, cover with plastic wrap, and set in a bright location out of direct sun until the seeds germinate. Then remove the wrap and set the pan under the lights, keeping the bulbs within a few inches of the plants. Harvest as needed, either by thinning individual plants and/or by snipping the tips and allowing the plants to regrow. Keep the soil evenly moist but not sopping wet and fertilize occasionally with a water soluble fertilizer. You will need to replant periodically because the constant trimming will exhaust the plants.
