Someone gave me a large cutting from a Scheffelira??? and I placed it in water but I'm not sure if this is the correct way to establish roots, help? |
Spring and summer are good times to do this. Schefflera is easily rooted from a tip cutting (you may need to use a smaller portion). Remove the leaves from the bottom half of the cutting and stick the lower half of the stem into dampened soilless potting mix. Tent plastic wrap or a clear plastic bag over the top to maintain humidity, and set it in a bright location out of direct sun. (Direct sun would cause it to overheat like a parked car.) Open the wrap periodically to allow air to circulate and take care to keep the soil moist but not soggy. Once the plant is rooted, remove the plastic wrap. |
