The Q&A Archives: Wild Blackberry Ripening Times

Question: We have purchased land in Southeastern Oklahoma and I have just discovered, to my delight, that we have wild blackberries growing on it. Could you tell me when they will be ripe for harvesting? Lisa Leiter Moore, OK

Answer: Wild blackberries generally ripen in the late summer. It will vary slightly with location. For example, plants on a south-facing slope will ripen before their neighbors on a north-facing slope or in a cold hollow. The harvest period can extend over a period of several weeks. I can almost taste that blackberry pie!
