IF I WERE TO PLANT HERBS IN BOXES ON MY DECK, WHAT WOULD I DO DURING THE WINTER MONTHS. I HAVE NO WINDOW SILLS WIDE ENOUGH TO PUT POTS ON AND HAVE A 2 1/2' OVERHANG SO GET VERY LITTLE SUN IN THE HOUSE. I HAVE NEVER GROWN HERBS BEFORE FOR THIS REASON. MY DECK FACES SOUTH WITH SIDES GETTING SUNLIGHT ALL DAY. |
Some gardeners find the herbs satisfying enough that they are happy to replace them each year if needed. The reasons for this include the fact that they taste so good fresh, can be harvested and dried for winter use, and are fragrant and attractive all summer. In some cases, perennial herbs will survive the winter in containers outside if they are sheltered from wind and the roots can be insulated. |
